Jalapeno peppers are widely available, inexpensive and a milder hot pepper. I wanted this honey jalapeno bacon side dish to be a medium heat that won't leave your mouth on fire after every bite, but instead is balanced with the sweet and saltiness of the sweet and spicy bacon.
Ingredients for honey jalapeno bacon recipe:
- Jalapeno Peppers - fresh peppers a must, canned or pickled will not come out the same
- Bacon - I used center cut
- Honey - Used at the end to finish, honey has a low heat point and if cooked with the bacon will burn and not taste good (I tried)
- Brown Sugar - helps to caramelize the bacon as it cooks
- Garlic - Added to enhance all of the flavors going on in this perfect snack
Instructions

Wash the jalapeno peppers under water and then thinly slice the jalapeno peppers and garlic clove.
Add the jalapeno peppers, garlic and brown sugar to a medium bowl and mix well.
Cover the bowl with saran wrap or foil and let marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour.
Heat a frying pan to medium heat.
Add 3-4 pieces of bacon, the jalapeno peppers and garlic mix to a frying pan and cook for 5-6 minutes per side.
Remove from heat and place on a wire rack or paper towels to get rid of excess grease.
Enjoy immediately with breakfast biscuits, fried chicken or just as some extra bacon to have on hand!
Substitutions
- Turkey bacon works well if you don't eat pork or want a leaner meat option
- For a spicier version use serrano or habanero hot peppers
- Honey - Maple syrup is also a delicious option if you don't have any honey on hand
