Steak umms is a great time saving product that is affordable and very tender when cooked. It is also a versatile ingredient that can be used in casseroles, omelettes and the classic Philly cheese steak. I am going to be testing out 5 different ways including how to cook steak umm in the oven, toaster oven, air fryer, stove top and microwave. Each way has incredibly simple steps.
How long does it take to cook?
Steak Umms take anywhere from 3-5 minutes which makes it so convenient to have if you need to throw a meal together on the quick.
Why cook in the oven and not microwave or stove top?
One reason that stands out to me is that you could use aluminum foil to make for an easy cleanup.
Also, frozen or reheated food generally cooks more evenly in the oven and tastes better.
If you are planning to make a lot of steak umm, the oven will be able to cook much more at once.
What is the best way how to cook steak umm in the oven?
I think the best way how to cook steak umm in the oven is to bake it. And it is such an easy way. The oven is the best overall option if I am making a recipe for the whole family. If it was just me, I would probably do the toaster oven. You can fit up to 5 slices on a 13 x 9 rimmed baking sheet.
Easy Instructions for how to cook steak umms in the oven:

Remove from the oven and get it!
What is steak umm and where was it created?
Steak umms was created by Gene Gagliardo in 1968 in Philadelphia, PA. As the son of a meat packer he grew up immersed in the industry, learning how to butcher meat at age 6.
Steak umms was created by Gene, recognizing that cheese steaks were difficult for children to eat because of the rougher cuts of meat used.
He wanted to create a meat product that was easy to cook and more tender. He came up with the idea of using beef trimmings of angus beef and pressing them through a meat grinder to tenderize the beef and create a uniform single layer of steak meat. Now more than 50 years later, his creation is still going strong!
What are some other options besides steak umms?
There are definitely other options besides the steak umms brand. Wal Mart has a great value, already seasoned steak that would be great for cheese steaks. Also, at wal mart is another brand that is unseasoned sirloin steak. Steak umms is the most common brand but there are other great options as well.
If you want to get thinly sliced ribeye you can splurge and get some through an online retailer. This is the most expensive but a great option to have for special occassions.
